The players to beat or watch out for? Maybe pick one from each division, nominate a player from your own team, upset  >:( a few people or shock a few  :o!

Jack Holland - Rising Star

Don't be put off by his young age! He took a couple out last year, his first season yet he did it both home and away.

There are not many who practice as much as he does and it has certainly paid off for him.

I don't know who he has in mind to be his partner on the 28th March but he poses a serious threat to anyone on his own green dunt he?

Good topic - and I guess everyone is gonna have their own opinions. It's fair to say that there are bowlers in the lower leagues that would more than hold their own in the Premier, and choose to stay attached to a club rather than chase any personal glory.
If we're asking who are the most consistently the 'best players' you should'nt have to look too far down the League Averages in any given division.
But for my two penneth, for what it's worth, the best players I came up against last year from Tameside were Steve Hargreaves from the Dragon, and Matt Jones. Rob Birchall, one of my Bush team-mates would'nt look out of place in the top division at all. I would say the same for Steve Foster at Delamere - Mr Consistent! As for our younger players Jack Hargreaves, James Jones, Lee Schofield, and as mentioned above, young Jack Holland, all have a bright future in the game.
Safe to say that the Standard of bowling in our League is better than average, given the size of the League, and it's boundaries. Not forgetting that a mug club bowler's (like myself) best game is better than anyone else's worst one!

Forza Bush!

The young bowlers in the Tameside league and Stockport league (I hope) have improved their game with the help of the Tameside coaching scheme. At least 10 juniors who have been to coaching now play for the Greater Manchester juniors and 2 play for Cheshire juniors, a great success and keeping the sport alive and kicking.
The coaching scheme also helps all ages and levels including players with disabilities, if your losing your touch help is at hand.
Chuck.

Hello Chuck, welcome aboard.

Yes, the efforts made by those concerned in the deveolpment of the game for youngsters and others alike should not go without notice.

Hi Brian, I'm hoping young Jack Holland will come and see me again and hopefully another player  from Tameside playing for Greater Manchester juniors, some achievement from a small area of Greater Manchester.
Chuck.

Has this thread surely gone off at a tangent?!?!!? Impossible to say who is the best player in the league is - but looking at the stats its difficult to look past Frank Gartside - i've never played him but year on year he seems to come out on top. Looking in the premier league - looks pretty weak to me! the best players i have played in my relatively short career (only being 21) are Lee Smith, Matt Jones, Chris Haynes, Chris Heyes, Craig Breakey (RIP) oh and not forgetting Keith Robins!!!!!!!!!!!!

21 - Honoured to be in such an esteemed list - and you obviously have a very short career if I'm in it!

If I'm not mistaken are we at 1-1 for matches against each other? If we are, you still owe me a cold one!

.....If we're not at 1-1 , you're not who I thought you might be! Because the 'young un' that beat me at home last year cost me the League Average. Though I managed to return the favour on his own patch later in the season - I think he may have taken pity on me!

So - you're 21 - you've played against me - must be Div 1 or Div 2 - I'll keep diggin, it'll come to me eventually!

My vote for player to beat is Leigh Smith from Abbey Hey, only 29 ( i knew him when he was a wee lad)  ;D. His nickname should be Leigh "consistent" Smith. Very hard to beat and if he is, its always close!. I think i beat him once in a club comp  ::).

Thats worth a couple of pints of the black stuff Smiffy  ;)
