Bowling in Tameside & Longdendale / Re: Tameside Ladies League

I'm so sorry to hear of this shocking decision!

I'm also sorry that like others, I've been to busy to notice your post until now. It is a very sad day when a bonafide team is refused entry to a league. It doesn't do much to promote the game does it?

Yes, you're right Ian.

We actually took £706 on the day but that was excluding the cash raised in the game of 'Chase the Jack' so that would take it to £720 (approx) and as Ian said, Michelle Sands is going to make the difference to a round £1000

I've updated the charity page with some details, thanks and photos. (Please will someone send me any more photos they may have taken on the day)

The Manchester and District Amateur Bowling League have now joined our web-based community and can now enjoy all the benefits of this website.

The link to the Manchester section of this site is included at the top of the page alongside Tameside and Longdendale.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome the league and it's members and wish them well for the new season.

Bowling in Tameside & Longdendale / Charity Match 2016

From Pete Conway

This years Annual Charity game between Smarty’s Bamy Army and Michelle’s Men (and ladies) will once again be played at Glossop BC on Easter Monday, 28th March, getting underway at 11am. As last year's pairs format seemed quite popular we’ll stick with it, so that everyone should get at least a couple of games in. Anyone who wants to play, regardless of ability will get a game. All we ask is that players donate £5 each to the pot or £2 for juniors. There will be the usual raffle (all donations of prizes to the raffle gratefully received) and other fun games, as well as refreshments available all day. If anyone has any suggestions for this years good cause, or causes, let me know via email at peter.conway21@ntlworld.com or phone on 07580 098884. Any good cause or charity considered. Last year everyone contributed to raising about £800. Thanks again to Glossop BC for allowing us the use of the green and facilities and to Nigel at Perrigo Sports for their kind sponsorship.

Well done Pete, Dave takes some beating anywhere let alone on a green he knows so well.

Sorry Peg, duty calls and all that but keep a seat warm for me at the Bush. One day...

But be honest, you would be lost if you couldn't pick on me so I do these things on purpose to keep you happy ::)

Matter of opinion ......

You so funny!

I suppose I asked for that. Note to self - Never give Peggy an oportunity to beat me at sarcasm.

It would be interesting to see if I could get past my first opponent and get to play more than one game. Be gentle with me in the draw ;) ;)

As long as I can get Karen sorted, I can play attend.

Best of luck for the new season you old timer. Sounds like you've got yourself off to a good start. Sorry I wont be meeting you on the battlefields any more though :(

That's a very positive number for the start of the new season and I hope it continues. There seems no reason whatsoever not to support the advantages that these systems can bring yet I know that you were one of just a few avid supporters of the Vets section on this site. It's still a mistery to me why they didn't embrace it here but no point in opening old wounds, lets just hope it prospers on bowlsnet.

When I can get round to it, I'll be adding website links to the 'Club Details' page so any club with their own website will have a link directly to it. The 'Club Details' page at the moment just has club address, floodlight info, map and officials contact info. I'll also create a more permanent link to bowlsnet

Bowling in Tameside & Longdendale / 2015 Charity Match - Results
« on: April 08, 2015, 12:01:05 AM »
It seems these days that Facebook is the dominant force and message boards like this are less frequently used. As you can imagine, there has been lots of chat on Facebook about the event both before and after but for those of you that don't use it, here is a summary.

It was held at Glossop Bowling club this year, in glorious sunshine and in a pairs format for a change. All in all a very good day was had and we rasied a total of £760 for the 'Friends of John Owen Fundraiser'.

38 bowlers, many regulars and many newcomers were there to see Mermaid lift the trophy once again for her merry men (and ladies). The new pairs format was a great idea from Pete and handled exceptionally well by Michelle.

As we always do during the event, we thanked everyone involved either publicly during the announcement or in person as we met various people and everyone knows how much we appreciate any help in any way.

To everyone else who helped and supported this event, THANK YOU

I say with all sincerity that I hope that the vets section make use of the facilities provided to them by the BowlsNet website. It would be a crying shame to see another opportunity wasted.

Please note the address posted above is incorrect, the James North website is http://jnmbc.doodlekit.com/

Hi Sutster

Please don't stop posting detals of your events at Fallowfield. I strongly encourage people to use this website and I just wish that more people would post as much info as you do. This site is for that very purpose and there are open comps, club comps, open days held by different clubs all season long but they don't appear on here!!!?

No offence taken by the way

Without wishing to sound unfair, we make every effort to hold the annual charity match on a date that does not clash with other events. We want as many people as possible to support the event and so we set the date in stone in 2013. EASTER MONDAY, EVERY YEAR. Nobody has to try and remember it, it's fixed. It's also the reason that I personally spent a countless number of hours building the calendar as part of this website.
