Bowling in Tameside & Longdendale / Falling numbers
« on: November 24, 2013, 11:14:06 PM »
With numbers falling and many clubs struggling to field teams, Andy Dawson and Glossop BC have reversed the trend and had great success in attracting new members to the club. People who might be potential converts to the game probably don't know anything about Crown Green Bowls. Don't know where greens are. Don't know who to contact if they want to play. Don't know what's on offer by playing the game socially or competitivley.

It's a big problem that it's often not easy for potential new players to get involved in Bowls and there doesn't seem much direction from the BCGBA in addressing the issues. So as a first step to see what we could do in Stockport, there will be an open forum to which anyone with an interest in tackling these issues is welcome to attend. It's in the downstairs room at High Lane Conservative Club on Monday 2nd December at 8pm. Tony Bryning will be there to represent the Stockport Bowls Development Group and Andy Dawson will be there to explain what Glossop have done. Anyone who has any ideas or wants to be involved or anyone representing a club who wants to attract new players is encouraged to attend.

We can talk and moan about the state of the game as much as we like, and often do, so this could be an opportunity to forumulate a plan on how to reverse the downward trend in our area.

I know there aren't many wanting SMRBL to win the Longdendale again, but honestly, I never expected our esteemed Webmaster to be in on the act :- League Division 1&FixtureDate=27 April 2013&season=2013

Bowling in Tameside & Longdendale / Lowes Arms & Juniors
« on: May 09, 2011, 12:36:06 PM »
Just looking at the junior county results from thsi weekend and notice that the GM home side is dominated by juniors from the Lowes Arms. This interest coincides with an email I got from a mother whose son was interested in playing. Seem to remember the Lowes ran sessions for juniors on saturday mornings. Whats the crack and is the Lowes the place to point new juniors to ?.
